How Rory McIlroy Plans to Win the Masters
Professional golfer Rory McIlroy has outlined his plans to maintain his lead and win the Masters in 2025.
McIlroy spoke with Amanda Balionis after round three of the Masters on April 12.
McIlroy acknowledged he is in a "great position going into" the final round with a two-shot advantage over the nearest competitor Bryson DeChambeau.
"I think the big thing is not to make it a rematch," McIlroy responded. "To stay in my own little world. There’s a few other people on that leaderboard that could make a run so I just have to do what I've been doing."
He explained his tactics by saying he was going to "surround myself in my own little cocoon, and just get into in my own little bubble."
Referring to DeChambeau, he said, "He will do what he does, and I just have to stay firm and stay in my own little world."
McIlroy has never won the Masters before, and he needs a tournament win there to complete a Career Grand Slam, according to The Palm Beach Post.
"I think I still have to remind myself that there's a long way to go, just like I said yesterday, 18 holes," McIlroy said on April 12, according to The Post. "I, just as much as anyone else, know what can happen on the final day here."
"I've got a lot of experience," he continued. "I came in here talking about being the most complete version of myself as a golfer, and you know, I just have to keep reminding myself of that and remind myself that no matter what situation or scenario I find myself in tomorrow, I'll be able to handle it."
McIlroy also went through a hole-by-hole discussion of his play from April 12.
"The course got pretty tricky at the end," he told Balionis. "The greens got a little firmer."
But he concluded: "I played a great solid back nine" and said it was a "perfect way to start."
McIlroy called the April 12 round an "awesome" day overall, although he said there were a few other shots he wished he could have made.
