Abhishek Sharma secured his name in the books of history during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) on April 12. Though Abhishek was suffering from a poor patch since the start of the season, this specific match turned the tables.

After a dismal performance since the beginning of the season, Abhishek broke the ropes that were keeping him from scoring, as he played a stunning knock of 141 runs in just 55 balls. He hit 14 fours and 10 sixes during his stay on the crease. resulting in an outing that would be remembered for a long time.

This historic knock of 141 runs by Abhishek resulted in the team successfully complete their target of 246 with 9 balls to spare, which registered the second-highest run-chase in the history of IPL.

Though this was the first hundred by Abhishek Sharma in the IPL, it was overall the 7th by the youngster in T20 cricket. Before this, Abhishek had scored two centuries in international matches, and four when he used to play for Punjab in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT).

As a result, Abhishek secured the record for having scored the most centuries by a player before turning 25 years old. The record was previously held by Shubman Gill, with 6 centuries before turning 25.
