2025 Earth Day events around the Capital Region

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Earth Day will be celebrated on April 22 this year. The annual global event, first held in 1970, honors the Earth while encouraging the public to protect the planet, its ecosystems and its resources.

The Capital Region will be holding a host of cleanups, events and other activities to celebrate this year's Earth Day. Take a look below for some events taking place around the area:

Albany County

Earth Day Cleanup, Albany

The Downtown Albany Business Improvement District will be hosting an Earth Day Cleanup on April 22 from 11 a.m. through 3 p.m. Attendees will help with cleaning and beautifying downtown Albany's parks, sidewalks, streets and public spaces. All supplies, including garbage bags, lawn bags, gloves, trash pickers and more, will be provided by the City of Albany Department of General Services.

Those interested can pre-register on the Downtown Albany website and receive a free Great Albany Clean Up T-Shirt, as well as complimentary food and beverages donated by Coulson's News & Deli. Day of, volunteers can check in any time from 11 a.m. through 2 p.m. at Liberty Park at 30 Hudson Avenue or Olde English Downtown Park at 119 N Pearl Street.

Montgomery County

Neighborhood Cleanup Day, Amsterdam

The city of Amsterdam will be holding a neighborhood cleanup day on April 19. At 8:30 a.m., volunteers are invited to meet at Veteran's Park lower lot, where they will be assigned a location to help clean up.

Trash bags, gloves and breakfast will be provided. There will also be face painting, and a lunch and prize giveaway will be held at 12:30 p.m. Cleanup will end at 1 p.m.

Rensselaer County

Earth Week citywide cleanup, Troy

The city of Troy will be holding weeklong cleanup event during Earth Week, from April 21 through April 27. The annual project, which aims to promote sustainability, encourages the local community to organize and participate in neighborhood and park cleanups throughout the city.

The Troy Department of Public Works garage will have complimentary cleanup supplies, including clear trash bags for litter, litter pickers, leaf bags and disposable latex gloves. The supplies can be picked up Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. through 3 p.m.

Residents, organizations and businesses interested in organizing and registering a cleanup project can fill out a form on the city of Troy's website. The completed form should be emailed it to Alex.Horton@troyny.gov with the subject line, "Earth Week Cleanup Registration."

Dyken Pond Earth Day Gathering, Cropseyville

On April 26, the Dyken Pond Environmental Education Center invites community members to help prepare the park for the year. From 9 a.m. through 12 p.m., volunteers will help to clear the trails, ready the gardens, pull invasive plants and tidy up the education center.

Saratoga County

Earth Day Clean-Up Day, South Glens Falls

Starting at 8:30 a.m. on April 26, the Moreau Community Center and Boy Scout Troop 99 will hold an Earth Day cleanup event around South Glens Falls. Volunteers and other community organizations are invited to join in beautifying the village.

All cleanup supplies will be provided. Refreshments will also be available before and after the cleanup. To sign up or find out more information, call (518) 792-6007, ext. 16.

Earth Day Fundraiser, Common Roots Brewing, South Glens Falls

Common Roots Brewing in South Glens Falls will be hosting a fundraiser on April 25 to celebrate Earth Day. Running from 4 p.m. through 8 p.m., the evening will include food, raffles, auctions and an educational appearance by live birds.

All proceeds collected at the fundraiser will go toward North Country Wild Care, an upstate group of wildlife rehabilitators and volunteers dedicated to helping injured or orphaned wildlife from around eastern New York.

Schenectady County

Earth Day Jellyfish Touch Tank, Via Aquarium, Rotterdam

The Via Aquarium in Rotterdam will celebrate Earth Day by opening up its Jellyfish Touch Tank. From 11:30 a.m. through 1:30 p.m. on April 26, visitors of all ages will be invited to touch the live jellyfish in the tank and learn more about the sea animal.

Jellyfish arts and crafts will also begin at 11 a.m., while supplies last. The two events are included with general admission tickets, which can be purchased online or at the aquarium's admissions desk. Prices start at $15.

Earth Day Fun Day, Schenectady Jewish Community Center, Niskayuna

On Tuesday, the Schenectady JCC will host an Earth Day Fun Day. From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., the center will offer a bird house and bird feeder making session, recycling games and art projects. Planting seeds will also be handed out.

The program is free and open to the public. Schenectady JCC is located at 2565 Balltown Road in Niskayuna.

Schoharie County

The Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site will be host a creekside cleanup on Saturday. Beginning at 9 a.m., volunteers will be tasked with cleaning trash and debris along the Schoharie Creek and Mohawk River/Barge Canal. The cleanup will begin at the Schoharie Aqueduct Boat Launch & Picnic Area.

Volunteers are encouraged to wear hard-soled boots and work gloves. Cleaning bags and tools will be provided if needed. Those interested can register online.

Ulster County

Earth Fair, Kingston

The 11th annual Earth Fair will take place on May 10. The event will feature food trucks, face painting, a solar-powered merry-go-round and live performances by groups like the Drumsong Orchestra of the Hudson Valley, Big Joe Fitz Acoustic Trio and Arm of the Sea Theatre.

Several exhibitors and vendors will be in attendance, including Radio Kingston, Citizens Concerned About Plastic Pollution, Center for Creative Education and more. Attendees can also swap gently used clothes and household items in the Earth Day Exchange, explore electric vehicle displays and go on sponsored boat rides.

This year's fair will also offer e-waste and refrigerant recycling free of charge. Confidential paper shredding and recycling will also be available.

The free fair will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at T.R. Gallo Park. Parking will be limited but a UCAT shuttle bus will run between the Cornell Street parking lot, the Kingston Point Beach parking lot and the T.R. Gallo Park throughout the day. A bike valet will also be available at T.R. Gallo Park.

Warren County

Community Farmland Cleanup, Dancing Grain Farm Brewery, Gansevoort

On April 27, the Dancing Grain Farm Brewery in Gansevoort will celebrate Earth Week with a farmland cleanup. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., volunteers are invited to help clean up road side trash around the farm along Old West Road and Washburn Road.

Lunch, beverages and dumpsters will be available. Volunteers can sign up online.

Washington County

Earth Day 2025 Feeder Canal Clean Sweep, Fort Edward

The Friends of the Champlain Canalway Trail and Evergreen Bicycle Works will be hosting a Feeder Canal Clean Sweep on Friday beginning at 11 a.m. Volunteers will remove litter, trim brush and rake along a one-mile stretch of the Old Champlain Canal in Fort Edward.

Participants are encouraged to bring gloves, rakes and loppers. It is also recommended to wear boots or hard-soled shoes and a hat and to bring sunscreen and water.

The cleanup will begin at the Empire State Trail Trailhead parking lot at Mullen Park and end at the Feeder Canal Towpath Trail parking lot at the end of Towpath Lane. Participants are encouraged to bring gloves, rakes, loppers and a water bottle as well as wear boots or hard-soled shoes, hat and sunscreen.
