United Airlines Announces Important Change for Travelers
United Airlines released its Q1 earnings report on April 15, and between all the numbers and statistics about its revenue, the airline also announced a change for passengers starting soon.
In the earnings report, the airline said that it's seeing increased demand for premium seats and international trips, but it's going to scale back on another offering.
United Airlines will lower their number of domestic flights, due to decreased demand, with the airline saying they will be "removing 4 percentage points of scheduled domestic capacity starting in the third quarter of 2025." United also said that it's changing how often its fleet flies, most obviously on days that travel is slow, and that will happen through the end of 2025.
"United is removing 4 percentage points of scheduled domestic capacity starting in the third quarter of 2025," the airline said in a statement. "United is also continuing to make prudent adjustments to the utilization rate of its fleet, including ongoing reductions in off-peak flying on lower demand days."
They added, "The airline expects to continue this approach into the fourth quarter of 2025."
United had some good news to share in their earnings report. Despite the airline reducing domestic flights, they stated that customer demand is growing. International travel, they said, has increased 5%, and bookings for premium cabins have gone up 17% compared to 2024.
"United reported a first-quarter profit, with record revenue of $13.2 billion, and total revenue per available seat mile growth of 0.5% year-over-year," the airline said in their report.
United also stressed that the future is "impossible" to predict amid the current climate, stating, "the Company's outlook is dependent on the macro environment which the Company believes is impossible to predict this year with any degree of confidence" in a securities filing.
United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby added that the airline "will continue to execute our multiyear plan that has allowed United to thrive in any demand environment."
