162 Afghan citizens relocated from Pakistan to Germany
A group of 162 Afghan citizens has been successfully relocated from Pakistan to Germany as part of ongoing resettlement efforts.
In the latest phase of the resettlement process for Afghan citizens to Germany, 162 individuals who had previously been promised acceptance were transferred from Pakistan to the city of Leipzig.
German media reported that on Wednesday, a group of 162 Afghan citizens arrived in the city of Leipzig, Germany, from Pakistan. These individuals had earlier received official promises of acceptance from the German government.
Among this group, five local employees who had previously collaborated with German organizations in Afghanistan were also included. This transfer is part of Germany’s plan to accept vulnerable individuals and local collaborators following the political upheaval in Afghanistan in 2021.
Germany’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that around 2,600 other Afghan citizens, whose acceptance has already been confirmed, are still residing in Pakistan, and their transfer process is ongoing.
After the fall of the Republic of Afghanistan in 2021 and the return of the Taliban to power, Western countries evacuated thousands of Afghan citizens who had worked with embassies, media, and international organizations. Many of them were temporarily transferred to neighboring countries, especially Pakistan, to await transfer to their final destinations, including Germany, Canada, and the United States.
Nearly three years have passed, and the transfer process for many of these individuals has encountered political and administrative challenges. The recent action by the German government may alleviate some of the concerns of Afghan refugees still in Pakistan.
As of now, Germany has facilitated the resettlement of over 160 Afghan citizens, with further flights planned in the coming weeks. The German government is preparing to conduct three charter flights by the end of April, each carrying more Afghan citizens who have been waiting in Pakistan for resettlement. These flights are part of Germany’s continued efforts to support vulnerable Afghan refugees, many of whom have been waiting for nearly three years.
The resettlement process has faced several obstacles, including delays due to administrative procedures and political challenges both in Germany and Afghanistan. However, these upcoming flights offer a glimmer of hope to the 2,600 Afghan citizens still awaiting their chance to relocate.
Despite the challenges, Germany’s commitment to fulfilling its promises to Afghan refugees remains steadfast, and the upcoming flights are a crucial step in providing a safer future for those affected by the political changes in Afghanistan.
