Latest Duke Chronicle Profile: Sion James
What a pleasure he’s been for Duke fans!
He was only a Blue Devil for one season, but Sion James sure made a deep impression, didn’t he?
James moved into the starting lineup early in the season and provided outstanding defense, leadership, three point shooting and heart.
And while we see things from the cheap seats, from all accounts, James has sterling character too, as we’ve learned from his dedication to charitable pursuits.
In their latest player profile, the Duke Chronicle breaks down James’s one season in Durham. Check out this quote from coach Jon Scheyer about James’s impact on the defense: “It’s not a mismatch whoever he’s guarding. He’s guarding the other team’s point guard, picking up full court in the whole game and then he’s typically going to be the guy that switches onto a five, and it’s not really a mismatch, and it’s a luxury to have that.”
Things probably worked out out well for James too: he’s been mentioned as a possible draft pick and at worst, his heightened visibility will get him invites to try out for teams.
His true future may not be as a player though. James has a lot of attributes that you’d like to see in a young coach.
