Run Like a Girl event supports Unity House, women in need
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- More than 260 people registered to "Run Like a Girl" at Siena College on Wednesday. The event was inspired by the upcoming Delightful Run for Women 5K and was organized by a Siena student.
Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities exercised together, but the gathering will be felt long after the 1.5-mile distance was completed. Participants were encouraged to bring donations of feminine hygiene products that will go to Unity House, which serves women in need throughout the Capital Region. They are working to give survivors of sexual violence a community.
"We are creating a space that is so important, especially on college campuses and especially for all ages and all genders," student and organizer Carsyn Ide said. "We're here to support, spread awareness, and justice."
The event raised nearly $2,500 for Unity House in addition to the products. The Delightful Run for Women will take place on Saturday, May 31 in Albany.
