Sigourney Weaver Hilariously Admits Her True Motivation For Joining 'The Mandalorian & Grogu'
She's fought evil spirits and chest-bursting aliens and braved the dangers of Pandora. With all of that on her resume, did Sigourney Weaver need to join the Star Wars universe? Speaking on Good Morning America, Weaver was asked why she wanted to be part of the new movie, The Mandalorian & Grogu, and her answer might not be what you expect.
When asked if joining the movie was specifically because of her love Baby Yoda (AKA Grogu), Weaver did not say no.
"Well, I'd never met Monsieur [Pedro Pascal] here, and now that I've met him, I'm doing it for both reasons. They're both amazing. I'm very, very lucky. I'm in love with my cast. I'm sorry Grogu isn't here to talk to you."

Pascal and Weaver appeared on GMA live from Tokyo, where they are guests at the latest Star Wars Celebration, a convention in which several massive Star Wars announcements have already been confirmed. Weaver's character will act as Mando's boss in the movie, assigning him to a new mission for the Republic. At the convention, Weaver noted that her character is "still a pilot."
In addition to screening the first trailer for The Mandalorian & Grogu to audiences in attendance, the first day of the convention also confirmed that Ryan Gosling will star in a Shawn Levy-directed new Star Wars movie called Starfighter, set to hit theaters in 2027.
The Mandalorian & Grogu will hit theaters on May 22, 2026.
