‘The Conners’ Producer Teases ‘Emotional,’ Never-Before-Seen Series Finale
The Conners will end its seven-season run with something that has never been seen on TV. The tease came from executive producer Bruce Helford, who told TV Insider that the 37-year on-and-off run for the sitcom family will end in a very unique way.
“There’s something that happens in the final episode that I don’t think has ever happened on broadcast television,” Helford told the outlet in an April 2025 interview. “[It] is going to be really emotional,” The Conners showrunner added.
The two-episode finale, which airs on ABC on April 23, will close out a storyline involving the accidental death of matriarch Roseanne (Roseanne Barr) as the family pursues a lawsuit against a pharmaceutical company.
Helford previously told The Wrap that Barr’s iconic character would not come back from the dead as her husband Dan (John Goodman) did on the original Roseanne series. “We aren’t bringing anybody back from the dead,” Helford said in March. He didn’t rule out a ghostly tribute to Barr’s character.
Helford is not the first Conners producer to tease the never-before-seen thing that will take place in the finale.
In an interview with Good Morning America, Sara Gilbert, who plays Darlene Conner on the show, said, “There's also something we do at the end that I haven't really seen that I can recall on another show. So I think that will be fun for people to see.”
“I think viewers will be happy, I hope," The Conners star added of the series finale.
