Michael B. Jordan Reveals Chadwick Boseman's Impact on His 'Sinners' Role
The box office surge made by Ryan Coogler’s Sinners through the opening weekend now looks to continue its hot start right into the second weekend. Earning $45.6 million on opening weekend, Sinners ranked No. 1 at the box office and the strong reviews continue to pour in.
Coogler, who directed Fruitvale Station (2013), Creed (2015), Black Panther (2018), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) and now Sinners, put together an impressive cast for the film, headlined by Michael B. Jordan.
While Coogler and Jordan have worked together on multiple movies before, they've both pointed to a close-knit relationship built while making Black Panther with the late Chadwick Boseman.

Boseman, who died from cancer in 2020 at the age of 43, has received lofty praise from both Coogler and Jordan. The trio had grown close since working together, and the Sinners director admitted in an interview with The New York Times that Boseman's death "messed everybody up" and "might have messed [Jordan] up the worst."
Jordan spoke about Boseman in the same interview with the Times, and said that his friend and fellow actor's "influence has styled with us, even on Sinners."
The 38-year-old actor offered more insight into just how impactful Boseman was on his role in Sinners, pointing back to the late actor's preparation for his role in Black Panther.
"I remember we were doing a camera test early on, when I was still finding my way into the characters, and Coog reminded me of what Chad did with T'Challa [in Black Panther] — how he really leaned into that character and embodied him throughout the shoot," said Jordan. "I said, 'Say no more,' and from then on, the performance was done in that light."
The respect and admiration Coogler and Jordan have for Boseman has been on full display in numerous interviews, and it's apparent he made a significant impact on them both personally and professionally.
