Patrick Mahomes Breaks His Silence After Major Change
Shortly after losing Super Bowl LIV to the Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes radically changed his haircut, ditching his iconic curly mohawk for a cleaner and simpler buzz cut. Now, he's broken his silence on why exactly he made the change.
While Mahomes' barber, DeJuan Bonds, said he thought "frustration" was to blame for Mahomes wanting to change up his hair, Mahomes explained that he had actually wanted to cut his hair for quite some time but held back due to "superstitions."
"I’ve wanted to do it for a while, but it was kind of one of those superstitions. I kept winning the Super Bowl, which is a good thing, but I didn’t want to cut the hair while I was doing it," Mahomes told the media on Thursday via Fox News Digital.
But that doesn't mean the Super Bowl loss was solely to blame for Mahomes' decision to cut his hair. He made it pretty clear that he intended to cut his hair after the season, regardless of whether they won the Super Bowl.
"I told everybody during the season that win or lose, if we win three in a row or if we lose, I’m getting a haircut like that’s enough. I’m very excited. I’ve looked at some videos from last year and I can’t believe all you guys let me keep that nappy hair for so long, like I look way better now with the short hair, so I’ll be keeping this going forward."
Mahomes is now gearing up for another season leading the Chiefs as he and the team will try to bounce back from a disappointing performance in the Super Bowl. We'll have to see if Mahomes can start another Super Bowl winning streak in a new hairstyle.
