Woman taken to hospital following Topeka house fire
TOPEKA (KSNT) - A woman was taken to an area hospital on Thursday after being found with her son in a southwest Topeka house fire.
At 1:30 a.m., firefighters were called to the 2200 block of SW Brookfield Street for reports of an automatic alarm. On arrival, firefighters found a single-story home with smoke coming from a bedroom, according to the Topeka Fire Department (TFD)
Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire. While searching the home they found a female resident and her son, who were then rescued. The woman was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
