Another Beloved '90s Slasher Film Is Getting a Reboot
Following the reboots of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, another '90s slasher will be coming back to live.
In an exclusive report from The Hollywood Reporter, a reboot of the 1990s slasher film Urban Legend is in early development. Shanrah Wakefield is slated to pen the script, with Gary Dauberman producing via his Coin Operated banner. Neal Moritz is also in negotiations to produce as well.
The announcement of an Urban Legend arrives shortly following the premiere of the new trailer for the reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer.
The original Urban Legend, which starred Alicia Witt, Rebecca Gayheart and Loretta Devine, was released in 1998 and chronicled a set of college students who fall prey to a serial killer whose kills were inspired by popular urban legends of the period. Dauberman has produced horror films such as It, Annabelle, and The Nun. Dauberman also serves as producer and co-writer for the film adaptation of the video game Until Dawn, which tells the story about a group of friends caught in a Groundhog Day-style time loop.
While plot details on the Urban Legend reboot are unknown, sources told The Hollywood Reporter that the story aims to be an look at what an urban legend looks like in a post-digital world.
