Whole Foods Location Shut Down for Disgusting Reason
Whole Foods Market shoppers in the South Bay area should take note that one of their local stores is temporarily closed.
The trouble began at the Cupertino, CA store located at 20955 Stevens Creek Blvd. on March 26 when the deli and bakery area were closed by the Santa Clara County Department of Environmental Health due to "contamination of vermin," per NBC Bay Area.
The closure only lasted a day, but the health department shut them down again on April 8 so the store could comply with "required maintenance" while the rest of the store remained open. However, a health department inspector found other vermin issues in other parts of the store.
"The permit to operate has been temporarily suspended at this facility," officials said in a statement to the news outlet on April 23. "A permit suspension occurs when an imminent threat to health and safety is observed, and the violation(s) cannot be corrected. The facility must be closed until the violation is corrected and the permit is reinstated."
NBC Bay Area obtained the documents which cited "rodent droppings in various spots throughout the store, and at eight points the inspector observed rodents, insects, birds or animals."
Men's Journal reached out to the corporate offices of Whole Foods Market for a statement on April 24.
"Our Cupertino location is temporarily closed while we complete necessary maintenance and repairs," a Whole Foods Market spokesperson shared via email. "We will reopen once the repairs are completed thoroughly to support our high standards for food safety and service. We apologize to our customers for this inconvenience."
There is no set date for the reopening of the store yet.
