Village FD training spotlights gaining access when seconds count
VILLAGE, Okla. (KFOR) - On Thursday, firefighters with the Village Fire Department sharpened their training regarding forcible entry.
Fire officials say gaining access when seconds count is one of the most critical skills in their toolbox when addressing entry into a structure.
From a working house fire, a medical emergency behind a locked door, or a welfare check with no response, the ability to gain access quickly is what makes the difference between life and death, said Village fire officials.
Firefighters say the technique combines tool familiarity, building construction knowledge, and teamwork with training highlighting the following :
- Rapid access during emergencies
- Minimal property damage when possible
- Safety for both victims and firefighters
- Adaptability to different layouts and setups
With any emergency, Village firefighters say they train like it’s real, because one day, it will be.
