Shedeur Sanders Breaks His Silence on Cruel Prank Amid NFL Draft Disaster
In addition to his shocking slide in the NFL Draft this week, Shedeur Sanders also fell victim to a cruel prank when someone pretended to be a team representative picking him in the draft. Now, he's opening up a bit on that prank.
The incident happened on Friday as Sanders was waiting to be selected in the second or third round of the NFL Draft after falling out of the first round.
While on a livestream from a gathering of friends and family, Sanders received a call from what he thought was a representative from an NFL team. As he answered the phone, the person on the other end told him they were New Orleans Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis.
"It's Mickey Loomis here, GM of the Saints," the voice said on the phone.
"Been waiting on you," Sanders responded with a smile.
"It's been a long wait, man. We're going to take you with our next pick right here, man," the person on the phone said.
"Yes, sir. Let's be legendary," Sanders responded.
However, Sanders' excitement quickly turned to confusion when the person on the phone told him he would “have to wait a little longer,” and ended the call abruptly.
“What does that mean?” Sanders said as he put his phone away.

In the video, Sanders expressed his confusion as to how someone could have even had that number to call him, and he added a few more details on Saturday as he broke his silence on the incident.
"That was a specific phone number, not in my name, not in anything," Sanders explained in a video on Saturday. "Boost Mobile sent the phone just for the draft. Nobody has the number. The number was only in an email thread that the NFL sent out to only teams."
Based on this explanation, the only person who could have had access to the phone was someone with access to the NFL Draft email thread.
"So, the NFL leaked it, basically?" his brother Shilo Sanders asked.
Shedeur Sanders, however, was not placing blame on the league.
"No, you can't say that. It could have been one of their kids that had seen the email and just took the number," Shedeur responded. "That's it."
Given that the pranksters were unmasked on Saturday and they appeared to be college-aged young men, it seems that Shedeur's explanation is reasonable.
