Shedeur Sanders Breaks Silence on Troubling Draft Rumor
On April 24 most in the NFL world expected quarterback Shedeur Sanders to be selected in the first round of the 2025 draft. However, after he started to free-fall, Sanders offered a message to his supporters.
"We all didn't expect this, of course, but I feel like with God, anything possible, everything possible. I don't feel like this happened for no reason," he said. "All of this is, of course, fuel to the fire. Under no circumstances did we all know this was going to happen, but we understand we on to bigger and better things. Tomorrow's the day. We going to be happy regardless. Legendary."
Amid his fall emerged a rumor suggesting his interviews leading up to the draft didn't exactly go as planned. In a podcast appearance Thursday night, The Ringer’s Todd McShay revealed that Sanders' interview with the New York Giants specifically did not go well.
“Shedeur didn’t have a great interview with Brian Daboll in a private visit,” McShay said. “An install package came in. Preparation wasn’t there for it. [He] got called out on it. Didn’t like that. Brian didn’t appreciate him not liking it.”
After Sanders was finally drafted in the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns, reporters asked the former Colorado star about the rumor.
"I think what happened was I had a great interview and a great process with the Browns and that's why they were able to pick me. Anything outside the organization is really a non-factor to me now. This is my focus," he said plainly.
Sanders was one of two quarterbacks taken by the Browns during the draft after the team drafted former Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel in the third round.
