Winterhawks fall to Spokane in OT, down 0-2 in series
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Spokane's Chase Harrington scored just 2:25 into overtime to lift the Chiefs to a 6-5 win over the Portland Winterhawks, giving them a commanding 2-0 series in the Western Conference finals.
The Chiefs, who scored 10 times in Game 1, got a hat trick Sunday night from Andrew Cristall, plus two goals from Assanali Sarkenov.
Portland took a quick 1-0 lead just 2:03 into the game when Diego Buttazzoni scored. Josh Zakreski scored later in the period to give the Winterhawks a 2-1 lead after one.
But Cristall scored twice in the second period and once more early in the 3rd as the Chiefs built a 5-3 lead. Portland battled back to tie it with goals just 2:33 apart midway through the third period.
Overtime didn't last long, though, as Harrington found the back of the net off an assist by Sarkenov.
The series now shifts to Portland for Games 3-4-5 on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.
