Two Major Fast Food Chains Closing Hundreds of Locations
Two major fast food chains with a lot of locations in the United States are shutting down a bunch of their spots.
Jack in the Box, a West Coast fast food chain known for its burgers, is shutting down hundreds of locations, according to a report. The company announced on April 23, 2025 that it plans to close up to 200 of its 2,200 restaurants. The stores that are being shut down are believed to be "underperforming."
The fast food company is shutting them down in the hopes of improving the company's cash flow and helping to pay off the company's $300 million debt.
"Jack in the Box will implement a block closure program, which is projected to result in the closure of approximately 150-200 underperforming restaurants — a majority of which have been in the system for over three decades," the company wrote in a press release.
"The program will consist of approximately 80-120 restaurant closures between now and 12/31/2025, with the remaining underperforming restaurants closing thereafter based upon respective franchise agreement termination dates."
It's not the only popular burger chain that is closing hundreds of locations, either.
Another popular fast food chain, Neat Burger, is shutting down all of its United States and United Kingdom locations.
The fast food chain sold plant-based burgers, while also offering plant-based chicken, salads, and meat-free sandwiches.
"Neat represents a new era of eating with brighter, healthier, fresher fast-food. Our mission is to feed a positive change in global eating habits by offering consciously harvested, plant-based food," the restaurant said.
But now, it's shutting down.
It's closing all of its locations in the United Kingdom, along with its store in the United States.
"We have no further comment at this time, other than to confirm that the business has taken the difficult decision to close its UK restaurants," the company stated.
The fast food business is ever-changing and these two companies are choosing to pivot with some of their locations.
