Bill Gates Makes Surprising Admission About His Youngest Daughter
Bill Gates' daughter has seemingly inherited the entrepreneur gene from her successful father. Phoebe Gates, 22, recently shared that she and her Stanford University roommate Sophia Kianni had started their own business.
The women created a new shopping app called Phia. On the first episode of her new podcast, The Burnouts, the ladies discussed their new endeavor.
"Think of it as your personal shopping sidekick, always tagging along on your phone or laptop, making sure you never overpay. Phia is like Google Flights for fashion — an AI-powered tool that compares prices across 40,000+ retail and secondhand sites in seconds. No ads, no endless searching — just the best options in one click, so you can get the best price every time," Phoebe Gates and Kianni explained.
Interestingly, Phoebe Gates didn't ask her dad for any money to fund the project — which he spoke about in a recent interview with The New York Times.
"I thought, ‘Oh boy, she’s going to come and ask [for money]," he told the outlet. However, he admitted that he would have helped if his daughter needed it.
"I would have kept her on a short leash and be doing business reviews, which I would have found tricky, and I probably would have been overly nice but wondered if it was the right thing to do? Luckily, it never happened," he said.
The outlet shared that Phoebe Gates and Kianni were able to secure funds on their own by was of $100,000 from Soma Capital and a Stanford grant of $250,000 from a social entrepreneurship program. They also were able to get an angel investor to secure another $500,000.
