The Hyde to host art-inspired floral exhibition for Mother's Day
GLENS FALLS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Hyde Collection on Warren Street in Glens Falls is introducing a new spring-themed floral exhibit just in time for Mother's Day. The "Art in Bloom" exhibit will feature 12 botanical displays created by regional florists, along with museum tours and floral-inspired activities.
The event takes place from May 8 to 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Attendees will receive a map of the exhibits upon arrival. "Art in Bloom" is included with the museum's admission, which costs $12, $10 for seniors, or free for museum members and children.
The Hyde's permanent collection inspires each floral display, transforming works of art into stunning floral designs. Some of the florists participating include A Touch of an Angel Florist of South Glens Falls, members of the Tri-County Garden Club, The Hyde Collection volunteer gardener Scheryl LoMonico, and many more.
One of the paintings being recreated in floral form is "Rembrandt’s Christ with Arms Folded," by one of the museum's volunteer gardeners, Janine Thomas. Thomas said the event gives her goosebumps.
“Where else in the world could a retired art teacher have the opportunity to interpret Rembrandt’s Christ, a portrait of divine presence, in floral form," Thomas asked. "Only at The Hyde!"
Artworks being transformed into floral arrangements include "The Blossoming Maple" by Willard LeRoy Metcalf, "Mary: Portrait of the Artist’s Daughter" by Abbott Handerson Thayer, "Basket of Fruit and Flowers" by the workshop of Giovanni della Robbia, and several others. Permanent Collection Curator Bryn Schockmel said that other museums, such as the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Worcester Art Museum, among others, host similar floral events that bring communities together to celebrate spring.
"I have so enjoyed experiencing similar events at other museums, and I’m thrilled that this year we are inaugurating Art in Bloom at The Hyde," Schockmel said. "It is sure to be a fun weekend, filled with beautiful floral arrangements by some incredibly talented designers."
