Costco Rival Shutting Down 2 Restaurants
It's the end of an era for two restaurants that serviced Kentucky and Ohio area Kroger customers.
Two out of three of the company's Kitchen 1883 restaurants closed — the Union, KY, and Anderson Township, OH locations were impacted, per Grocery Dive. Kroger has not shared the reason why they are shutting down the restaurants, but the sole Kitchen 1883 location will remain open next to its corporate headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The Kitchen 1883 Instagram account shared a note with its followers on April 16 announcing the news.
"This decision was not easy, as Kitchen 1883 has been more than just a place to eat — it has been a place of laughter, memories, and shared meals with friends and family since 2017," the message said. "We are incredibly grateful for your support, love, and loyalty over the years. You have made this journey unforgettable, and we hope to see you at this location one last time before we say goodbye. Join us for one last meal, one last toast, and a chance to celebrate the moments we've shared."
Both restaurants closed on April 24 and the comments saw a few confused customers as to why the locations were shuttered. "Why shut down Anderson?" asked one patron in the comments. "How do you justify shutting down a restaurant that generates over 2 mil in business?
Other fans reminisced about the good times they shared there with their families. "I’m incredibly sad to see this. This is where we celebrated Mother’s Day and other small celebrations," they wrote. "You all will be missed wonderful staff and great food."
WLWT5 reported on April 18 that some employees will transfer to jobs at Kroger stores while others are seeking employment in the restaurant industry. The first Kitchen 1883 opened in 2017 at the Union location and paid tribute to the year founder Barney Kroger opened his first grocery store in Cincinnati.
