Pakistan Military on high alert for potential Indian attack

Pakistan’s military is on high alert in response to growing concerns of a potential Indian attack, following rising tensions.

Pakistan’s Defense Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, warned on Monday, April 28 that a military attack from India appears “imminent,” with Pakistan’s armed forces on full alert. Speaking in an interview with Reuters from his office in Islamabad, Asif stated, “We have reinforced our forces because an Indian attack is imminent. In such conditions, strategic decisions must be made—and they have been made.”

Asif noted that the aggressive rhetoric from Indian officials, coupled with intelligence assessments by Pakistan’s military, indicates India’s readiness for military action. However, he did not disclose further details to substantiate this claim. He emphasized that while Pakistan maintains strong defensive preparations, it would only consider the use of nuclear weapons if the very existence of the country were threatened.

Tensions between India and Pakistan, both nuclear-armed nations, have sharply escalated following a recent deadly attack on tourists in the disputed Kashmir region. In the aftermath, diplomatic and trade ties have severely deteriorated. India has closed border crossings, suspended visa services for Pakistani nationals, and recalled its military diplomats from Islamabad.

In retaliation, Pakistan closed its airspace to Indian airlines and condemned India’s suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty as an “act of war.” The Pakistani government has been engaged in diplomatic consultations, informing allies like the United Kingdom, the United States, China, and Gulf countries about the unfolding situation. According to Asif, several of these countries are already mediating between India and Pakistan to defuse tensions.

Meanwhile, China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement urging both India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and avoid actions that could escalate the conflict. Regional and global powers are closely monitoring the situation, given the high stakes involved in any military confrontation between two nuclear neighbors.

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar also commented recently on the rising India-Pakistan tensions. In an earlier interview with media outlets, Kakar warned that any attack on Pakistani cities would be met with proportional retaliation targeting Indian cities, demonstrating the country’s readiness for a firm military response.
