Lawyer Sends Clear Warning Before Kim Kardashian Trial
The people responsible for the Paris robbery of reality television superstar Kim Kardashian back in 2016 are set to face trial, but one of the defense lawyers had a bit of a warning before the high-profile case.
Back in 2016, Kim Kardashian was held at gunpoint in a Paris apartment as robbers away with millions of dollars in jewelry.
The reality television star was tied up by a group of men wearing ski masks and clothes with police markings as they stole a $4 million engagement ring given to her by her then-husband, rapper Kanye West along with other expensive jewelry.
Kardashian is now set to testify against nine defendants in what figure to be a high-profile case.
According to the New York Times, over 400 journalists have signed up to follow the trial, which is more than 10 times the amount that are even allowed into the courtroom in central Paris on any given day.
As a result, one of the defendant's lawyers is concerned about the integrity of the trial, issuing a bit of a warning as the trial gets set to begin.
“There is great concern that this trial could turn into a show trial,” said Chloé Arnoux, a lawyer for 69-year-old Aomar Aït Khedach, who was mobbed by cameras as he hobbled through the courthouse with a cane.
“The exceptional nature of the case stems more from the notoriety of the plaintiff than from the facts themselves,” she added.
Kardashian is set to testify, but she declined to comment on the case outside of her comments during the trial.
"At this time, Ms. Kardashian is preserving her testimony for the court and jury," her team said in a statement. "She wishes for the trial to proceed in an orderly fashion in accordance with French law and with respect for all parties to the case."
