Lawrence animal sanctuary cares for animals saved from Topeka cockfighting operation
TOPEKA (KSNT) - A local animal sanctuary is asking for help this week as it takes care of animals rescued from a Topeka cockfighting ring.
Shy 38 Inc. Kansas Farm Sanctuary, based out of Lawrence, took to social media on Friday, May 2 to ask for help in taking care of an assortment of roosters, hens and chicks that were involved in an illegal cockfighting operation in Topeka. Police found the 28 animals on May 1 following the execution of a search warrant that ended with one arrest.
Several fighting roosters were rescued during the search warrant. These roosters are usually euthanized as they are difficult to care for, according to Shy 38 Inc. Kansas Farm Sanctuary. The birds are currently being cared for but will need special accommodations from generous donors willing to help.
The animal sanctuary asks that people who want to help out can send in cash donations or head to Amazon to purchase much-needed supplies. You can learn more about donating and helping out by clicking here or by calling 816-756-4407.
