Bill Belichick Fumbled His Media Strategy—Now He’s Bringing in Backup
Bill Belichick’s post-Patriots era was always going to be weird. But no one expected the six-time Super Bowl champion to fumble the bag this badly off the field.
With his book tour sputtering and his presence at North Carolina raising more eyebrows than enthusiasm, Belichick is reportedly seeking professional help—not for play-calling, but for damage control. NBC Sports reported that according to multiple sources, he’s been in talks with veteran P.R. strategist Brandon Faber, the former Bears V.P. of communications, to help salvage the public perception of both his book and his new role at UNC.
The conversations have been ongoing for months, but nothing has been formalized. Still, it’s clear Belichick knows something’s off. His grumpy, tight-lipped persona might have worked at the podium after a playoff loss, but it’s tanking his relevance in a media landscape that demands engagement, or at least some charisma.

His recent CBS interview was a masterclass in what not to do. The same old stone-faced routine clashed hard with the goal of promoting a book. Then there’s his girlfriend, who reportedly stepped in as a kind of media gatekeeper, defending him like it was fourth-and-long. Instead of softening his image, it all came off as controlling and bizarre.
The blowback was immediate: tabloids ran wild, SNL took a jab, and sports media hasn’t stopped picking it apart. It’s the kind of negative press even Belichick can’t out scheme.
If he wants to pivot successfully into his next chapter, whether that’s as a college mentor, author, or TV personality, he’ll need more than rings. He’ll need someone to tell him the truth: right now, he's losing the press conference.
And that’s a loss that sticks.
