The 2025 Met Gala Is All About Hats
This year’s Met Gala is an ode to the Black dandy, which means that there are lots of fabulous suits, some suit-adjacent gowns, and a ton of hats. In fact, headwear stole the show on Monday night, with some of the best looks of the night brought together by a wide brim or a perfectly shaped beret. But you can’t just throw on any fascinator and call it a day; some hats are better than others. Here are the best hats from this year’s Met Gala.
Diana Ross
A legend looking legendary, of course.
Tracee Ellis Ross
Like mother, like daughter.
Lupita Nyong’o
How are you supposed to wear your hair pulled back and have a hat on at the same time? Well, you get a tiny hat, of course.
Zendaya
Zendaya is no stranger to a hat, but this is probably her best one yet.
Bad Bunny
Benito opted to rock a high-fashion pava, a traditional Puerto Rican straw hat. Perfection.
Whoopi Goldberg
It’s Whoopi Goldberg in a top hat. What more could you ever want?
Reverend Al Sharpton
Reverend Sharpton is giving a Whoopi a run for her money, but he was edged out only because he never really put it on. That being said, a hat as a prop is still a hat.
Lewis Hamilton
Has a beret ever looked so good this side of the Seine?
Hunter Schafer
Okay, wait, maybe this is the best a beret has ever looked? Don’t make me choose.
Debbie Allen and Norm Nixon
The couple that wears giant hats together …
Jordan Roth
The Broadway producer always has a showstopping moment at the Met Gala, and this year’s hat moment is no exception.
Wendi Murdoch
This list needed some fascinator representation, and Wendi Murdoch’s golden bird’s nest (?) will do just that.
Kim Kardashian
No comment on the look as a whole, but the hat rocks.
Jodie Turner-Smith
This is how you bring a sense of stylish whimsy to the Met Gala.
Janelle Monáe
Are you seeing this? The monocle is attached to the hat. The monocle is attached to the hat.
André 3000
Yes, the big headline here is that he had a piano strapped to his back, but let’s not erase this fabulous red number.
Damson Idris
Does a helmet count as a hat? When it’s sequined, yes.
Aurora James
I want to get lost in there.
