Sinner heads to his home country's ATP event still at the apex of the men's world rankings. His last match on court was January's straight sets win over Alexander Zvererv in the Australian Open final. It will be interesting to see whether he's suffering from rust, as he tries to hold off challenges from the likes of reigning champ Zvererv, Carlos Alcaraz, Taylor Fritz, Jack Draper, and a Casper Ruud who just enjoyed success at the Madrid Open.
Clay court specialist Iga Świątek has won three of the last four Italian Opens on the WTA Tour and will likely see the next chapter of her rivalry with world number 1 Aryna Sabalenka play out in Rome. Sabalenka is on fire, having lifted three titles this season including the recent Madrid Open. She defeated the in-form Coco Gauff in the final, who leads a strong American field including Jessica Pegula, Emma Navarro, and Australian Open winner Madison Keys.
With the French Open a few short weeks away, this clay court tournament in Rome should prove a handy indicator to who might capture the second Grand Slam of the season. Where to watch the Italian Open in the US
Along with this season's other men's ATP Masters 1000 and women's WTA 1000 tournaments, the Tennis Channel is set to show the 2025 Italian Open in the US. As well as having its own streaming platform (costing $10/month or $110/year), the Tennis Channel can be found on a variety of cable packages and, for cord cutters, month-to-month live streaming services.
Sling TV is one of the most affordable you can get. DirecTV is a more comprehensive cord cutting option, with the Tennis Channel appearing among channel lineups of its Choice, Ultimate, and Premier tiers. They cost $90/month, $120/month and $165/month respectively (before the extra regional sports and Gemini lease fees), and all include more than 125 channels. Once you've chosen your base plan, you can personalize your plans by adding further channels through DirecTV's various add-ons. DirecTV offers a five-day free trial for new users.

Where to watch the Italian Open in the UK
Daily action from Rome is being shown daily on Sky Sports from both the women's and men's draws in Rome until their respective finals on May 17 and 18. That means you'll need a Sky TV plan that includes Sky Sports. These start from £35/month and also include more than 100 other channels and access to Discovery+ and Netflix. Or, if you already have Sky, you can add its nine sports channels for an extra £22/month.
