Tom Brady Put on Blast for Shedeur Sanders Comments by Mike Florio
The 2025 NFL draft slide endured by former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders took center stage over virtually all three days of picks. Even after Sanders was selected at No. 144 in the fifth round, the debate over his head-turning slide raged on.
While there was no shortage of opinions on Sanders' historic draft tumble, former superstar quarterback and current part-owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, Tom Brady, was asked about it recently.
Brady sat down on the Impaulsive podcast and gave a bit of a non-answer regarding the Sanders' slide. Specifically, the longtime NFL quarterback said he wasn't a part of "any evaluation process" when asked about the Colorado signal-caller's slide.

“That’s a good question. I wasn’t a part of any evaluation process,” Brady said after a pause.
“I actually texted Shedeur because I know him very well and I said ‘Dude, whatever happens, wherever you go, that’s your first day. Day 2 matters more than the draft. I was [pick] 199. Who could speak on it better than me? Use that as motivation. You’re going to get your chances. Go take advantage of them.’”
It seems not everyone is buying Brady's comments that he wasn't involved in the Raiders' decision-making, nor are they putting much stock in his comments about Sanders. That at least stands true for Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, who called out Brady over this on PFT Live, as Raiders Beat highlighted.
“Brady is very unconvincing as he stammers and stutters his way through until he gets to, it’s a good question… Anyone who remembers the initial Deflategate press conference, Tom Brady is a horrible liar, which is good," Florio said. "I’d rather deal with somebody who’s a horrible liar than a really good liar, because with a really good liar, it’s like trying to figure out what owes the mentalist is up to.
With a bad liar, we at least know he’s full of s***. He kind of knows he’s full of s***, but he’s saying what he has to say, and we can make sense of it. He doesn’t want to affect his relationship with Shedeur Sanders. Of course, he was involved in the evaluation of the quarterbacks. Of course, Tom Brady. That’s one of the reasons why he has a sweetheart deal, to buy the team for peanuts in comparison to its market value.”
Brady's true level of involvement may never be known, but given his relationship with the Sanders family, it still comes as a surprise that the team passed on Shedeur so many times in the 2025 NFL draft.
