Iconic Rock Band The Who Makes Major Farewell Announcement
The Who will tour the United States one final time. On May 8, the legendary English rock band announced their This Song Is Over farewell tour with 16 dates in North America, according to Rolling Stone.
The shows will kick off Aug. 16, 2025, in Sunrise, FL, and will end in Las Vegas on Sept. 28. The band will play dates in Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York, Boston, Chicago, Seattle, California, Washington, and Canada in between.
In a statement, founding member Pete Townshend, 79, said, “Well, all good things must come to an end. It is a poignant time. For me, playing to American audiences and those in Canada has always been incredible... Roger [Daltrey] and I are in a good place, despite our age, eager to throw our weight behind this fond farewell to all our faithful fans.”
Daltrey, 81, added, "To me, America has always been great …Thanks for being there for us and look forward to seeing you one last time."
The Who formed in London in 1964 and became known for their hit songs “Pinball Wizard,” “Behind Blue Eyes,” and “Baba O’Reilly.”
Since that time, the iconic band, which originally included drummer Keith Moon and bassist John Entwistle, has embarked on several “farewell” tours. The Who’s first final tour came in 1982 when the band members were still in their 30s, per Ultimate Classic Rock.
Fans commented on the post announcing the 2025 tour on the band’s official Instagram page.
“The band that invented the farewell tour! Back in 1982 they had their first one. Hahaha,” one commenter wrote.
“I attended my first Who Farewell show in the fall of 2002,” another noted.
“I love The Who, but they’ve been doing their farewell tour my entire adult life! ????,” cracked another fan.
Tickets for Who's This Song Is Over North American farewell tour can be purchased via the band’s official website starting May 13.
