Bard College at Simon's Rock closing, terminating all employees
GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. (NEWS10) -- Bard College at Simon's Rock in Great Barrington announced it is expecting to close permanently by the end of the year and relocate to the Hudson Valley. With this closure, the college will be eliminating all jobs at the Great Barrington facility.
The college reported that the closure is anticipated to begin on June 30 and end on December 31. About 116 employees will lose their jobs in this time period.
One or more employees may remain employed for no more than 60 days after the closure to attend to administrative duties relating to the closure. The timeline for the layoffs is:
June 30
- 28 instructional staff
- Six administrative staff
- Seven academic support staff
- 10 student support staff
July 31
- Five student support staff
August 31
- 52 student support staff
September 30
- Three administrative staff
December 31
- Five student support staff
Those impacted will get a written 60-day notice of termination. The new facility in Annandale-on-Hudson in New York, called the Massena Campus, will have positions for faculty and staff. Current Simon’s Rock employees will reportedly receive the first notification of available positions.
The MassHire Rapid Response Team is also providing job readiness re-employment workshops to those effected by these layoffs.
