Priyanka Chopra & Nick Jonas Reveal the Strict Rule They Have for Daughter Malti — & How She Found a Loophole
When they aren’t busy lighting up the red carpet, Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra Jonas are just regular parents. In fact, they even have a bit of a strict vibe, if one of their parenting rules is anything to go by. The power couple revealed one hard-and-fast rule they have for 3-year-old daughter Malti Marie — and the quick-thinking toddler has already found a way around it.
In an interview at the Met Gala on Monday, the Citadel star told Vogue India the rule they have for Malti: no TV on a school night. Pretty harsh for a girl who isn’t even old enough for kindergarten!
“I might have had to tell her that she can watch a movie today,” Chopra Jonas told Vogue. “It’s Monday — weekdays we can’t watch movies, it’s just for the weekends,” she explained. But when the parents aren’t home, rules are meant to be broken. In the interview, the mom of one revealed what happened when she told her daughter, “Mama and Daddy were going to the ball.”
“Like Cinderella …” Malti quickly replied, hinting about wanting to watch the Disney movie. It’s solid logic! If they get to go to a ball, she should get to watch a ball on TV. Chopra Jonas laughed and added, “So I was like, you can watch Cinderella today.” Aww! It’s good to know they aren’t too strict with their daughter.
In the interview, the Jonas Brothers star also opened up about going out as parents. “Our daughter was around today while we were getting ready,” Jonas said. “And you know, we’re going to be checking in [with her sitter] throughout the night. We’re having fun.”
The “Jealous” singer also shared several pictures from the Met Gala, with his and Chopra Jonas’s coordinating black-and-white looks. In one, someone holds Malti up to get a better look at her mom as she is getting ready. The toddler looks adorable with a red dress, white tights, and white shoes as she gazes at her mama.
“Date night ❤️,” Jonas captioned the photo carousel.
In an interview with PEOPLE in March, The Last Five Years star opened up about balancing fame and fatherhood. “The best part about being a dad for me and balancing things like this work stuff — and this is hardly work — is that you could feel like your coolest self on top of the world, and she just doesn’t care at all,” he said at JonasCon.
“She wants to play Moana and Maui with me, and that means more to me than anything else, is that time with her,” he continued. “And just the fact that I’m just Dad when I’m home, it means a lot.”
