'Emily in Paris' Filming Interrupted by the Papal Crowds
Emily in Paris probably didn't think their fifth season would have a papal interruption.
Despite having "Paris" in the title of the Netflix series, Emily (Lily Collins) found herself falling in love with an Italian man, Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini) at the end of the fourth season. That's why coverage of the conclave became an issue for the production.
“All the news helicopters covering the new Pope are causing mayhem and making so much noise," an insider told Us Weekly. The last three days have reportedly been difficult for the shooting schedule, and they've had to "keep stopping" while filming near the Spanish Steps. The scenes were between Emily and Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu), and they constantly had to “redo takes because the noise is crazy.”
The excitement probably won't die down as Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost was chosen as the first American-born pope on May 8. He will be known as Pope Leo XIV and his first words to the cheering crowd waiting at St. Peters Square were, "Peace be with you."
The Emily in Paris Instagram account shared on May 7 that they were officially back in production with a snapshot of Collins sitting on a moped. "Lights, Camera, Amore - Emily in Paris Season 5 is now in production," they wrote in the caption. Netflix also posted a video clip with Collins and Franceschini picking up where their characters' romance left off last season.
Collins teased the Emily-Marcello romance during a Good Morning America appearance in September 2024.
“I feel like they have a real spark and a real connection and a real romantic connection,” she divulged. “A lot of that’s going to continue to play out next season.”
