Late last month John Elway's longtime frined and agent Jeff Sperbeck, died from injuries sustained when he fell off a golf cart driven by the Hall of Fame quarterback.
Sperbeck was 62 years old. He was declared dead just three days after he reportedly fell from a golf car driven by Elway and hit his head on the asphalt.
Elway released an emotional statement hours after his friend's passing.
“I am absolutely devastated and heartbroken by the passing of my close friend, business partner and agent Jeff Sperbeck. There are no words to truly express the profound sadness I feel with the sudden loss of someone who has meant so much to me," Elway said in a statement at the time.
"My heart and deepest sympathies go out to Jeff’s wife, Cori; his children Carly, Sam and Jackson; and everyone who knew and loved him. Jeff will be deeply missed for the loyalty, wisdom, friendship and love he brought into my life and the lives of so many others.”
According to a statement from the Riverside Sheriff’s Coroner Bureau, via NBC News, Sperbeck’s death was caused by “blunt head trauma" and his death was ultimately ruled an "accident."
The "mode of death" for the 62-year-old Sperbeck was described as: “Passenger fell from golf cart.” While the investigation remains ongoing, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco said "so far it appears to be just a tragic accident.”
Sperbeck and Elway went into business together following the latter's NFL career, starting 7Cellars winery together in 2013.
