Major UK airport warns of flight delays after being hit by ‘ongoing IT issue’ as passengers urged to check journeys
TRAVEL chaos has been sparked at a major UK airport after it was hit by a severe IT issue.
Stansted airport warned passengers of delays and urged them to check with their airlines before they travel.
According to photos circulating online, huge areas of departures have ground to a total halt, with customers standing shoulder to shoulder as they wait for more information.
One holidaymaker said he had been stuck for 90 minutes and raged that his trip was ruined.
“Stood for 90 minutes so far between getting bag tags and waiting to put my bag on the belt at Stansted airport.
“No movement, flight leaves in 30 minutes. Holiday f*****,” he fumed.
It appears the airport was struck by IT issues this morning, which have now been resolved.
However, Stansted revealed that flights are still being affected by the technical problem.
A spokesperson for the London-based airport said: “Our teams are working hard to fully restore operations following the IT issue that impacted our systems earlier this morning.
“While the issue has been resolved, some flights may still be subject to delays.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and advise passengers to check the status of their flights with their airlines before travelling to the airport.”
Frustrated passengers have taken to social media, sharing photos of massive queues.
One wrote: “Total chaos at Stansted Airport. IT outage and everything completely stuck!”
Another furious traveller said he left the airport and booked a new flight.
“Holiday off to a great start… gave up. Stansted in meltdown. Came home and booked an easyJet flight from Gatwick later,” they wrote.
“You know those Karen tweets about ‘no one giving us information’, turns out that is a thing and it’s very infuriating!”
