Barack Obama Sends Clear Message About Marriage on Mother's Day
Barack Obama is celebrating his wife Michelle on Mother's Day after the couple has been the subject of divorce rumors.
The rumors started up a few months ago and picked up steam after Michelle skipped a number of public events, including former president Jimmy Carter's funeral and Donald Trump's presidential inauguration. The former First Lady shut down the whispers during a podcast appearance last month.
On Sunday, Barack shared a photo on X/Twitter of his wife with their daughters Malia and Sasha, adding in a heartfelt message.
"Happy Mother's Day to all the amazing moms and mother-figures! @MichelleObama, the girls and I are so lucky to have you in our lives. We love you," he tweeted.
Back in April, Michelle Obama broke her silence on the whispers of marital unrest during an episode of of Sophia Bush's "Work in Progress" podcast. She explained that she had missed the Carter funeral and Trump inauguration to spend more time for herself.
“The interesting thing is that, when I say ‘no,’ for the most part people are like, ‘I get it, and I’m OK,’” Michelle Obama said, via TODAY. “That’s the thing that we as women, I think we struggle with disappointing people. So much so that this year people were — they couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing.”
Earlier this month, Michelle appeared on the “Diary of a CEO” podcast, where she once again dismissed any possibility that she and Barack would call it quits after more than three decades of marriage.
“That’s not who we are,” she said. “And I know that about him. He knows that about me.”
The Obamas have been married since 1992 and share two children together.
