Warm spring week forecast in Bay Area to follow drizzly Monday

Following a gray and drizzly day Monday, temperatures were forecast to warm up across the Bay Area over the next several days, bringing in normal spring weather ahead of hotter-than-average temperatures forecast for next week, according to the National Weather Service.

On Monday morning, a light band of rain traveled across the Bay Area, primarily impacting the East Bay and South Bay, said National Weather Service meteorologist Dial Hoang. That was forecast to continue through the Bay Area for the rest of the morning and be followed by isolated showers through the rest of the day, resulting in about a tenth of an inch of precipitation. Some higher elevation spots could receive up to a quarter inch of rain.

“Once that main rain band comes through, you might see some isolated and scattered showers,” Hoang said. “Most of the rain is going to pass through with the rain band coming in.”

Following Monday’s showers, no more rain is forecast for the rest of the week.

Beginning Tuesday, the region is expected to see a warming trend that will bring temperatures into the high 60s and 70s for much of the week, Hoang said.

On Tuesday, San Jose has a projected high of 69, Oakland of 67, San Francisco of 63 and the Walnut Creek and Concord area of 73, Hoang said. Temperatures are expected to further warm Wednesday, with projected highs of 75 in San Jose, 70 in Oakland, 66 in San Francisco and 79 in the Walnut Creek and Concord area.

Lows will rest in the upper 40s to mid 50s through the rest of the workweek, he added.

“It might get a little warmer on Thursday with sensors rising to around 78 in San Jose, around 83 in Concord and around 68 in San Francisco,” Hoang said. “Then we are looking at another potential warmup for the upcoming weekend into the early part of next week.”

Those temperatures next week could reach as high as the lower to mid 80s in the inland valley areas and the low 70s in San Francisco, he added.

“We’re going to see temperatures around or slightly above the seasonal averages for the later part of this week,” Hoang said. “By early part of next week, we are going to start to see temperatures rise significantly above the seasonal averages.”
