New $18 million Kansas National Guard facility to open at Forbes Field
TOPEKA (KSNT) - Local, state and federal officials are getting ready to cut the ribbon on a new headquarters for the Kansas National Guard in Topeka later this month.
Jane Welch with the Adjutant General's Department announced in a press release on May 13 that a new Joint Force Headquarters will be opened in an upcoming ceremony. Major officials such as Governor Laura Kelly, Senator Jerry Moran, Major General Michael Venerdi with the 190th Air Refueling Wing and Kansas National Guard Adjutant General Ken Weishaar will be in attendance.
Welch said the new structure will provide command and control services for all National Guard forces in the State of Kansas. The 58,784 square-foot facility includes areas for assembly, classrooms and training. It also has administrative offices, heated storage, locker rooms, showers and restrooms.
National Guard personnel will use the $18,732,000 facility to meet anti-terrorism and force protection requirements. The facility will follow Army Sustainable Design and Development Policy using a ground-source heating system along with high-efficiency heating, ventilating and air-conditioning systems.
The ceremony will be held at 9 a.m. on May 27 at Forbes Field. It will not be open to the public.
