Robert Downey Jr. Posts Photo on 'Avengers: Doomsday' Set With Doctor Doom Graphic
Although the premiere of Marvel’s highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday is nearly a full year away, Robert Downey Jr. still got fans even more excited after a new photo of him surfaced.
Downey Jr., who has portrayed the popular Marvel character Iron Man since the superhero's first film was released in 2008, will take on the role of Doctor Doom in the new Avengers, which hits theatres on May 1, 2026. The announcement that Downey would step into the high-profile role was met with overwhelming support from fans.
Although we're all stuck playing the waiting game to get a first look at Downey in his next superhero suit, the popular actor gave his new character a small tip of the cap in a post on the set of Avengers: Doomsday. He also showed love to fellow Avenger, Jeremy Renner, who plays Hawkeye, by reading Renner's recently released book, My Next Breath, in the photo.

Behind Downey in the photo is a picture of Doctor Doom on what appears to be his trailer. The picture says: "Do Not Knock ... Trust Yourself."
While filming for the upcoming Avengers movie is underway, questions remain about whether many popular characters will be featured. Renner is among those that fans are curious about, as he wasn't listed in the initial cast reveal, although it was said that the nearly six-hour live stream didn't include every cast member.
Renner's IMDB page also doesn't include Avengers: Doomsday under his "upcoming" roles. Among the other names not revealed initially are Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch) and Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Strange), among others.
While there's speculation that a few of the names above will reprise their roles in the 2026 film, Marvel has kept these details under wraps for now.
