Mark Cuban’s Surprising Journey Into Healthcare Reform
Mark Cuban has never been shy about stepping into messy markets—and his latest comments suggest he’s not done with healthcare reform just yet.
“Put me in coach. I'm here to help,” the billionaire entrepreneur wrote on X, responding to new moves aimed at slashing prescription drug costs. While Cuban has long been outspoken about the need for transparency in healthcare, this latest statement has reignited interest in how far he’s willing to go to disrupt an industry known for high prices and low clarity.
The Shark Tank star and billionaire entrepreneur recently shared how his journey into healthcare began when a group of friends asked if he had any ideas on how to replace the Affordable Care Act. “That got me into healthcare,” Cuban said on the Hims House podcast. “It turned me into a healthcare geek.”
What followed was a deep dive into the U.S. healthcare system and a realization that what Cuban called a “lack of transparency” was driving sky-high costs. “There were a lot of vested interests that wanted opacity,” he said. “They want it to be as opaque as possible so that people can’t make good decisions.”
That research eventually led Cuban to launch the Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs Company in 2022. The online pharmacy keeps prices low by bypassing middlemen and buying medications directly from manufacturers. It charges only a 15% markup, plus flat fees for labor and shipping. “We are completely transparent, with the same price for anyone and everyone,” Cuban said in an earlier Business Insider interview.
The pharmacy’s approach is designed to remove the guesswork, and sticker shock, that many Americans face at the pharmacy counter.

Cuban’s advocacy for drug pricing reform hasn’t stayed confined to business. He’s weighed in publicly on government policy, backing recent executive efforts to slash drug prices.
While Cuban’s healthcare ambitions may have started with a question over replacing the Affordable Care Act, they’ve since evolved into a full-fledged crusade against a broken system—one that’s now gaining serious traction with frustrated consumers.
