Scarlett Johansson Points Out 'Weird Timing' of Her New Film Amid Justin Baldoni, Blake Lively Lawsuit
Scarlett Johansson isn’t ignoring the buzz.
In her Vanity Fair June cover story, the actress opened up about her directorial debut, Eleanor the Great, which is set to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
The film is partially financed by Wayfarer Studios, co-founded by Justin Baldoni, who is currently making headlines due to an ongoing legal battle with It Ends with Us co-star Blake Lively. Lively, 37, filed a lawsuit in December 2024, accusing Baldoni of sexual harassment and launching a retaliatory smear campaign. Baldoni, 41, has denied all allegations.
When asked about Justin Baldoni during her Vanity Fair interview, Johansson chuckled and remarked that Wayfarer had been “incredibly supportive” during the making of her film.
She added with a smile, “Yeah, the timing is definitely strange,” lightly touching on the surrounding legal controversy.
Interestingly, Johansson was once married to Ryan Reynolds, who is now Blake Lively’s husband. Reynolds is also named in Justin Baldoni’s $400 million countersuit, which targets the couple, their publicist Leslie Sloane, and her firm Vision PR, citing claims of defamation, extortion, and other allegations.
Meanwhile, amid the ongoing legal feud, Wayfarer Studios’ philanthropic branch—the Wayfarer Foundation—announced earlier this month that it will be shutting down for reasons that have not been publicly disclosed.
Steve Sarowitz, a producing partner, announced in a May 2nd Instagram post that "Upon unanimous decision of the board of directors, today we will begin the process of sunsetting the Foundation".
Besides Johansson's brief acknowledgment, she has not further addressed Reynolds’ ongoing legal battle.
