"The film follows Madden’s remarkable journey—from his Super Bowl-winning partnership with Al Davis and the Raiders, to creating Madden NFL, and becoming one of the most iconic voices in football history," Amazon MGM Studios said on Wednesday.
David O. Russell, who directed films like "Silver Linings Playbook" and "American Hustle," is in the director's chair for "Madden" and production is underway.
Other stars are set to appear in the film. Comedian John Mulaney will play Electronic Arts founder Trip Hawkins, while Sienna Miller will play Al Davis' wife Carol. Kathryn Hahn will play Madden's wife Virginia in the film as well.
Madden died in December of 2021 after a distinguished career as a coach and broadcaster. He led the Raiders to several division titles and one Super Bowl champion, and remains one of the winningest coaches in league history.
Madden went 103-32-7 in his career, and he has the highest career winning percentage among any one who has coached over 100 games.
After his time as a coach, Madden worked for decades as a broadcaster with CBS, FOX, ABC and NBC. He called multiple Super Bowls and championship games with longtime broadcast partners like Pat Summerall and, later in his career, Al Michaels.
Madden is remembered by fans in recent generations as the name behind the "Madden NFL" series of video games from EA Sports. Since the late 1980s, "Madden NFL" has been the top simulation football video game on the market, selling millions of copies around the world with its annual release each year.
We'll see if the movie chronicling Madden's career and life proves to be equally as successful when it releases.
