Seth McFarlane Took 'Ruthless' Jab at Ellen DeGeneres
Seth McFarlane hasn't shied away from controversial comedy during his long career in film and television, and he didn't compromise when making jokes at a recent charity event in New York.
During the Robin Hood charity gala, McFarlane joked that he was “the poorest guy here" at the event while he was surrounded by hedge fund managers and Wall Street decision makers.
After making jokes at his own expense and at the expense of country music star Keith Urban, McFarlane set his sights on former talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.
The creator of "American Dad" said that DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi “left right after the election, and now she’s the nicest person in France.” DeGeneres and de Rossi moved to the United Kingdom after President Trump took office earlier this year.
DeGeneres was one of the most popular talk show hosts in America before her show ended in 2022. The show won over 60 Daytime Emmy Awards and introduced DeGeneres to a new generation of fans after her success as a comedian and sitcom performer.
The show ended after reports of a toxic workplace environment, prompting DeGeneres to step down as host and end the program's 19-season run.
The foundation raised over $72 million for the fight against poverty in New York City, a fact that was not lost on McFarlane during his performance at the event.
“Thank the homeless – without them, nobody would be here tonight," he said, addressing a crowd that included luminaries like NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and former NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Gloria Estefan, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, Stephanie Ruhle, Michael Strahan, Colin Kaepernick, Serena Williams, Alexis Ohanian and Russell Wilson were all in attendance for the charity event.
The Weekend performed, just a few days before the release of his feature film "Hurry Up Tomorrow." Fans in the crowd chanted his real name of "Abel," which some believe is an indication that the artist will retire the stage name he's held for over a decade.
Guests in attendance at the Robin Hood event received gift suites that included Kiehl's skin care products, Equinox gym merch and a copy of Dr. Angelina Lipman's book “Blocking the Noise.”
