Adam Zane's road to the ring: discovering the LWA
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- KLFY News 10 reporter Zane Hogue, a.k.a. Adam Zane, will make his in-ring wrestling debut May 31 with the Louisiana Wrestling Alliance.
But how did he find the LWA?
"So I knew from the second I started working at KLFY I wanted to do a story about wrestling," Hogue recalled. "And I started going on Facebook, and I was looking at local wrestling shows and just whatever I could find. And it just so happened that the LWA had a Lafayette address, and I was like, 'I need to do something with this information that I found out.' So, I called the number."
That phone call led Zane straight to Joey Comeaux, a former pro wrestler from Lafayette who started his own wrestling school.
"And right from there, I said, 'Hey, I want to do a new story.' I want to talk about what wrestling is like," Hogue said. "You know, how people take bumps. So I want to talk about everything. And thank goodness he was down. He was down to go. My first exposure was all thanks to KLFY."
That story highlighted a documentary on Comeaux's life by filmmaker Jamie Ward, entitled "Gorgeous Journey."
Hogue said he has much appreciation for Comeaux, who wrestled as Gorgeous Joey Jackson.
"The fact that he was so willing to not only let me come in and do a new story, but willing to let me not sign any waivers and take some bumps and then ultimately want to sign up and just be next to me every step of the way, kind of showing me like, 'hey, this is what we can work on. This is what we can do,'" Hogue said. "He's presented me with a bunch of ideas that I've been able to roll with, and he's always been a really good support system and role model to take me under his wing and show me the ropes on how to succeed at this."
Hogue is not Comeaux's only pupil. The up-and-coming Adam Zane trains with a group of LWA wrestlers.
"Every person who has allowed me to step in the ring next to them has been nothing but polite," Hogue said. "They showed me every mistake that I've made. They've shown me everything that I've done right, and I wouldn't want to train with another group of individuals. They all bring this unique flair and energy to the table that even on the days where I start to think like, okay, I probably might not be made for this, they show me that we're made for this."
