‘The Conners’ Star Laurie Metcalf Scores New Role on Netflix
Laurie Metcalf has landed a new TV gig weeks after starring in the series finale for The Conners. The beloved sitcom star will appear in a still-untitled upcoming Netflix crime comedy series, Deadline reported.
The new series, created by Dan Levy and Rachel Sennott, will feature Metcalf as the mother of Levy and Taylor Ortega’s characters, who find themselves thrust into the world of crime after being blackmailed. Metcalf was one of the stars to be cast in the eight-episode series, according to the outlet.
In a statement, Levy said he was “so excited to be bringing this truly chaotic family story to life with Netflix.” “Taylor Ortega is going to become a household name, and it’s been my life’s mission to get to call Laurie Metcalf ‘mother, ’“the actor and showrunner added.
Metcalf, 69, has had a long career in TV, film, and stage. The Tony and Emmy Award-winning star has appeared in everything from 3rd Rock From the Sun to the film Lady Bird, but she is best known to audiences for her longtime role as Jackie Harris on Roseanne and its spinoff, The Conners.
When The Conners series finale aired in April, Metcalf told People magazine she would love to reunite with the cast and crew in the future. “It would be interesting if we broke off in little groups and did other projects,” Metcalf said of her former co-stars, who included John Goodman and Sara Gilbert. “And could see each other in different cameos on other things here and there. That'll be interesting.”
Production on Metcalf’s new Netflix series is expected to begin sometime in 2025.
