Sahith Theegala Withdraws Hours Before PGA Championship
The first round of the PGA Championship teed off Thursday, May 15 as the world's best flocked to Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, NC.
Household names like Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau entered as the favorites to win the tournament. Another top competitor, though, was forced to withdraw from the tournament just hours before it was set to tee off.
Sahith Theegala played three rounds in the Truist Championship last weekend before withdrawing from the tournament wit ha neck injury. Later on May 11, Theegala's girlfriend, JuJu Chan revealed his round started off great, with a birdie on the first hole.
However, she noted his round started to devolve quickly after that as his neck issue flared up. "everyone wish sahith a speedy recovery❤️????," she said in the caption of her post on Instagram.
Chan said Theegala rushed through the back nine while trying to get off the course "as quickly as possible" to deal with his nagging injury, leaving him with only a few days to get right before the PGA Championship.
Unfortunately for the talented golfer, he wasn't able to get healthy in time for the second major of the season. "Sahith Theegala WD from the PGA Championship with a neck injury; Alex Smalley in," the PGA Tour Communications X account revealed just 12 hours before the start of the tournament.
