Michael J. Fox Is Returning to Acting & the Role Will Surely Pull at Your Heartstrings
Michael J. Fox is coming back to the small screen!
After taking a step back from acting in the past few years, Fox, who has been battling Parkinson’s disease since his diagnosis in 1991 when he was just 29 years old, has been cast in a new show. Per Deadline, Fox will have a “major guest-starring role” in the third season of Shrinking on AppleTV+.
While details of his role are still under wraps, fans of the show might already be joining the dots. After all, one of the main characters in the show, Paul, played by the one and only Harrison Ford, is in the early stages of his Parkinson’s journey. With that storyline already in place, we’re thinking Fox’s character could be a friend of Paul during his journey, or perhaps a guide of some sort.
“Perfect casting for a show that hits you right in the heart. ????????,” wrote one fan on X. “Harrison Ford and Michael J. Fox collaboration finally ????????,” another wrote.
Shrinking, which was first aired in January 2023, follows Jimmy (Jason Segel), a therapist whose life turns upside down after the sudden passing of his wife. More than ever, Jimmy relies on his friends and family (including fellow therapist and mentor Paul) to repair his relationships and grieve her passing.
In addition to Fox, The Newsroom‘s Jeff Daniels will guest star as Jimmy’s father, and Sherry Cola and Isabella Gomez have also joined the cast in yet-to-be-revealed roles.
For Fox, the role is undoubtedly meaningful. Not only has Shrinking brought awareness to Parkinson’s like no other show on TV right now, but the role will also mark a reunion with the show co-creator/executive producer Bill Lawrence. Previously, Fox worked with Lawrence in Spin City for four seasons between 1996 and 2000. Fox ended up leaving the show due to worsening Parkinson’s symptoms.
Fox’s last TV role was in The Good Fight as Louis Canning back in 2020. We can’t wait to see him on the small screen again!
