Popular 'Survivor' Contestant Jane Bright Dead at 71
It's a sad day in the reality show community, as one of its favorite personalities has passed away. Those who watched the reality program Survivor likely recognize her name.
Jane Bright has died. She was 71 years old. Her daughter, Ashley Hammett, announced that her mother passed away in her North Carolina home on Thursday, May 15, in a post on social media. Ashley wrote, "Today Jane Hammett Bright was found passed away within her home by a good friend and county sheriff."
Bright appeared on Survivor: Nicaragua in 2010. She competed against 20 other contestants and came in sixth place, but she was so loved by the audience that she eventually won the Sprint Fan Favorite audience prize. He profile from the Survivor show page said that she was a dog trainer and the oldest member of the cast that season.
Fellow Survivor reality personality Donathan Hurley took to social media upon the news to give his condolences. "Lord, I sure did get my heart broken when I opened up Facebook after work," he stated in the post. He added that she was one of his "favorite Survivor family members" and that he loved her "so much." He added that she was a "firecracker" and said she was "always ready to have a good time and a good laugh."
Survivor winner Sandra Diaz-Twine also took to social media to pay tribute to her friend. "Rest in heavenly peace. Jane from Survivor Nicaragua #survivor," she stated in the caption.
Survivor got its start in the late 1990s and became a hit in America when it premiered on CBS in 2000. The first season of the American show, according to Britannica, was a "huge ratings triumph for CBS and is generally credited with launching the reality-television fad of the 2000s." In the show, "a group of contestants are stranded in a remote location with little more than the clothes on their back," according to IMdb.
