Preparations underway for annual canal festival
WATERFORD, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Tents were lined up on Friday along the Erie Canal in Waterford ahead of the annual canal festival. Last week's heavy rainfall delayed the opening of the canal, which typically coincides with the festival.
But organizers said they're not letting that get in the way of their good time. The portions of the festival that happen on land are going on as planned. That includes a wide array of local artists, live music, face paint and more.
"I'm looking forward to the lemonade stand, the French fry stand, the waffle stand," Paul and Gillian LaCroix said. "We wanted to stop because we understand it's 200 years of the canal, and we appreciate the canal. It's been very important to us and to all other boaters, who go up and down the canal, and we just wanted to be part of it."
The festival runs through Sunday.
