Two Acadiana high school baseball teams win state titles
LOUISIANA (KLFY) --The LHSAA baseball state title matchups finished on Saturday in Sulphur with two of three Acadiana teams becoming state champions.
The #4 Catholic New Iberia Panthers are the Division III select champions. They defeated defending champion #2 University Lab Cubs in a nail biter third game of the weekend championship series. Panther's win was capped off with a three-run homerun by J.D. Hidalgo in extra innings. This is the first state title for the Panthers since 2001.
The Teurlings Catholic Rebels can call themselves back-to-back Division II select champions after convincingly defeating the E.D White Cardinals with a final score of 14-3. The beat down began from the very beginning as the Rebels scored 12 runs with 13 hits in the first two innings. They finished with 15 total hits in route to the title.
The Erath Bobcats fell short in their attempt to capture the Division III non-select title over the top-seeded Sterlington High Panthers 5-3. The second seeded Bobcats forced a game three on Friday. They had multiple chances to maintain a lead in the Saturday's matchup but could not hand on. The Bobcats finished the season with a 26-13 record.
